7 Ways Bloggers Can Use Canva

It’s no secret that Canva is the go-to do-it-yourself content design platform for so many bloggers and small business owners. It is intuitive, user-friendly, and a great way to save time. I know that bloggers and small business owners always have a thousand and one things to do and whenever they can save time and money, it’s a huge plus. If you don’t already know how to use Canva, I have good news for you – you can learn how to use it in a few hours.

I decided to put together a list that covers different ways that bloggers can use Canva for content design projects because we can’t run away from the fact that we are visual (and curious) beings. When we see something that catches our attention, we can’t help but look. Actually, it’s the posts that have images and video content that get higher views. And as a blogger, you want more eyeballs on your content.

This is where Canva comes in. Canva is a do-it-yourself design platform for non-designers and designers looking to make some quick designs.

How bloggers can use Canva for their brand

One: Social Media Graphics

Whether you are a graphics designer or not you will find it easier to create your own social media graphics in Canva with their drag and drop feature.

Canva has pre-designed templates for different social media platforms that you can easily customize and you don’t have to worry about graphic sizes for different platforms. If you want to create graphics for Facebook, just pick a template for Facebook and customize it by adding images, texts, colours, and fonts. You can also create one from scratch.

If you are looking for something unique, you can buy social media templates and edit the templates according to your preference.

Instagram Canva Templates

Two: Media Kit

Don’t we all want brand partnerships! A Media Kit is a great way to showcase your creativity. You can use a media kit to outline what your blog is about, what you do, the brands you have worked with, your audience, and blog and social media statistics.

Not every brand will ask for a media kit but it will do you good to have one just in case you are asked for one. You can also use to pitch to brands. It helps them have an idea of how you can collaborate.

You can either make your own media kit in Canva or purchase a Canva template you can customize to make uniquely yours.

Three: Instagram Reels

Instagram Reels are short-form videos that are similar to TikTok. Reels are a great way to entertain, inspire, educate or inform your audience. They are currently the happening thing on Instagram.

Four : Blog Graphics

Blog graphics are not only great for adding colour to your posts but grabbing attention. Because we are visual beings, we are easily drawn to notice visual content first.

There are different types of blog graphics you can create in Canva for your blog. Here are some ideas.

  • Blog Favicon – This is an icon that appears in the web browser.
  • Blog Header (Site header)
  • Title image template e.g a Pinterest Graphic.
  • Sidebar graphic – if you have a sidebar, you can use it to showcase your featured posts, products, or anything that you would like your audience to see.
  • Blog signature

Five: Freebies/ Lead Magnets

Who doesn’t like freebies! Offering a freebie is an awesome way to get your readers to subscribe to your blog. Readers rarely just subscribe to a blog, they need a little push. Freebies, also known as lead magnets help to grow your email list.

Why build an email list?

Having an email list helps you build a relationship with your audience and know how to serve them better. If you have a product, It’s easier to sell to an audience that trusts you. It also helps you to easily communicate with your audience without worrying about algorithm changes as you would with social media platforms.

If you don’t already have an email list, you can look at some of these email marketing platforms.

Now that we have gotten email list building out of the way, let’s get to the types of freebies/ lead magnets you can create in Canva.

There are different types of lead magnets that you can create in Canva.

  • Worksheeet/ Workbook
  • eBook e.g a mini course that can be delivered to a subscriber’s inbox.
  • Checklists e.g a list of tools and resources you need to create the perfect lead magnet.
  • Templates – These can be social media templates, media kits, workbooks, etc. that someone can easily customize to their preference.
  • Blog planner/ Content planner

Six: Brand Kit

What is a brand kit?

A brand kit is a resource that a blogger or business owner can use to display important visual elements of their brand in one place. It contains elements such as your logo, colour palette, and fonts.

Seven: Email Headers

Having an eye-catching email header is always a good idea. Your email header is what your readers will see first. And they can decide to leave or continue because of your email header. People have a thousand and one things to do so you can’t really blame them.

Even in a book store, it’s the book with the eye-catching cover that catches your attention.
